Descriptiveness of cultural heritage in the context of scientific and restoration documentation

In view of our turbulent present a priority task of the state policy of Ukraine, which will determine and contribute to the formation of our identity, is to ensure the preservation of rare and valuable printed editions. Thus, it is important for our heritage: to carry out professional work assessment of their preservation; detect and identify damage; select and carry out restoration and/or conservation measures depending on the species damage and the edition values. [8] Implementation and observance of such a systematic approach in state and private institutions will have a qualitative impact on the state of cultural heritage.

The proposed article is focused on a significant component of preservation, namely descriptiveness in the context of scientific and restoration documentation.

In this article the importance of proper documentation of the cultural heritage of Ukraine, namely the accuracy of the presentation, informativeness and specifics, as a factor of fixing the current state of the object is discussed. This is important prerestoration process which involves qualified specialists. After all, high-quality documentation contributes to the professional performance of conservation work or restoration measures using appropriate materials and equipment with further recommendations regarding preservation and exhibition of book monuments.

In addition, this article tries to show the relevance of digital technologies in our modern society, which have become the norm of everyday life. The using of them creates a qualitative advantage, as a visual part descriptiveness of the object as well as in the textual one. This is why the involvement of the relevant technologies is necessary for the creation and formation of complex documentation, which can be stored in digital format.

The restorer, as a professional specialist, is able to provide a holistic approach to the object of cultural heritage regarding its preservation through phased documentation with subsequent practical processes that aimed at bringing monuments to an exhibition state.
