The purpose of the article is to analyze components of the cutting force of book blocks processing with an eccentric disc knife and experimental studies of the process in order to provide recommendations for the design of new cutting machines. The paper considers a new perspective method of book blocks cutting with a disk knife, which is installed with eccentricity. A study of the components of the cutting force by the forward and the reverse cutting is performed. The influence of the distance of the book block from the axis of rotation of the disk knife on the change of the direction and magnitude of the components of the cutting force is determined. Experimental studies have confirmed the nature of changes in the components of the cutting force of the book blocks, installed at different distances from the axis of rotation of the eccentric knife. The oscillograms were recorded on a special laboratory stand. Signals from sensors are recorded using measuring equipment from National Instruments (USA) and a computer with special software LabVIEW SignalExpress. The DIAdem system of the same company was used to process the results. The regression analysis was performed using Mathcad soft. As a result of research, it was found that the direction of the knife rotation significantly affects the change in the direction of longitudinal and transverse forces and their maximum values. When cutting the clamped in the transport carriage book blocks in forward direction and installing the knife at the maximum distance from the book block, a change in the direction of the longitudinal cutting force component was registered, due to which the magnitude of the feed force of the block decreases. The change of the direction of the transverse cutting force at the reverse cutting is observed. According to our experiments, value of the full cutting force in horizontal plane is smaller for forward cutting than for reverse cutting. Suggestions regarding the location of the disc knife relative to the book block are given. The obtained results can be useful for the design of advanced machines for book blocks trimming.
