The approaches to social entrepreneurship features based on mitigating or addre­ssing existing social problems have been examined. The corresponding features and the meaning of social entrepreneurship as an effective mechanism for solving social problems have been analysed. The important role of social enterprises in securing the economic development, welfare and the formation of a viable environment for the society has been outlined. The main criteria that define and characterize the essence of social entrepreneurship have been reviewed. Ukrainian and foreign experience of social entrepreneurship has been studied; its role and significance have been defined. The efficiency of social entrepreneurship opportunities has been outlined from social and commercial point of view.
