The article refers to the efficiency of electronic educational publications use in the educational process, it analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of such publications compared to printed ones, it highlights distinctive features of electronic educational publications, it describes the concept of “electronic textbook” from different approaches. It has been found out, that multimedia facilities allow to enrich the educational process by visual high-quality illustrative material: video, audio accompaniment, that will assist the activation of photographic and emotional memory. However, such top new possibilities appear mostly as single introductions, but not as an integral feature of the newly created electronic educational editions.
