The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the strategic objectives, technical requirements, and methodological foundations of digitizing printed book editions as objects of cultural heritage. The dichotomy of the principal goals of digitization is explored-namely, preservation (conservation-oriented) and information-communication purposes-which necessitates both the long-term safeguarding of materials and broad access to informational resources.

Particular attention is given to the technical infrastructure supporting digital reproduction processes, with a focus on the photographic and optical equipment complex as a critical tool in achieving high-quality digital imaging. The core components of the digital imaging system-camera bodies, interchangeable optics, lighting systems, tripods, reproduction tables, and auxiliary equipment - are examined in detail, and their interplay and impact on the digitization outcome are critically assessed.

The article synthesizes methodological approaches to configuring an optimal photographic-technical system tailored to the digitization of paper-based heritage objects within the contexts of conservation and scholarly activity. The rationale for specific technical solutions is justified in light of object format and condition, shooting parameters, and long-term digital preservation requirements of cultural heritage.

Keywords: digitisation, book editions, cultural heritage, preservation, documentation, phototechnical equipment, digital cameras, phototechnical complex, resolution.
