The background and the environment of the appearance of workers’ mutual assistance bases among Lviv printers

The processes of revival, reconstruction or renaissance of such a notion as ci­vil society are characteristic for the development of Ukraine during the years of in­dependence. Public initiatives, associations, movements and various associations of citizens demonstrate a dynamic tendency to protect and expand the social sphere, in which the values and interests of civil society are increasingly distinguished, significantly influencing the policy of the state, the economic, humanitarian systems, changing and democratizing them as an example of modern trade unions. Workers’ mutual assistance bases were preceded by the emergence of trade unions that emerged among Lviv printers and initiated the social protection of their own workers by their activities.
